The client
Dylana Jenson is a concert violinist and violin teacher whose career spans about five decades. In 1978 she became the first American woman, and the youngest competitor at the time, to win the silver medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. Her RCA recording of the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the Philadelphia Orchestra earned a Grammy nomination, and she has taught at the University of Notre Dame and Grand Valley State University. Today she teaches private violin lessons online and in person, and hosts a farm retreat for violinists.
The goal
One website had to do three jobs: bring in new violin students, sell places on the farm retreat, and tell the story of a remarkable career in a way that feels warm and personal rather than like an archive.
What we built
- Home page: a clear promise (“Where Technique Meets Beauty”), a “Book Your Intro Lesson” button, lesson levels from beginner to audition coaching, and the reasons students choose Dylana.
- Weekly Lessons: what each lesson covers and how to book, written for teens and adult learners.
- Farm Retreat: a full landing page with retreat highlights, the host and guest artist, student testimonials, tuition and accommodation details.
- Online store: a WooCommerce checkout for retreat places and additional guests.
- Story: a career timeline, from early study with Manuel Compinsky, Nathan Milstein and Josef Gingold to the Tchaikovsky medal, the Grammy nomination and university teaching.
- Videos: a library of masterclasses and concert performances, including the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto and Beethoven’s “Kreutzer” Sonata, plus a photo gallery.
- Press & Links: reviews from critics and links to recordings, interviews and concert archives.
- Contact: an enquiry form, a click-to-call button on every page and links to her social channels.
The design
The look takes its cue from the concert hall: deep black and plum backgrounds, warm gold accents and elegant serif headings with italic flourishes. Archival black-and-white photographs from Dylana’s childhood and career sit beside new portraits, and flowing gold lines suggest music in motion. A scrolling banner carries her own words: “My greatest joy is helping you discover the music within.”
The site runs on WordPress with Elementor, so lessons, retreat dates and videos are easy to keep up to date.
